    What do you need ?

    Access Point (AP)

    Access Point

Can use linux box with right card and software (http://oob.freeshell.org/nzwireless/LWAP-HOWTO.html)

          I have not tried this.

        WRT54G

You must buy the correct model!!!

          Can run Linux.

Can be "exteneded" but adding hardware, requires sodering

    Wireless Router

What is the differance between a "Wireless Access Point" and A "Wireless Router" ?

           Features

    Card/USB Dongle/?

There a lots of choices.  But it can be difficult to find one that is supported by Linux.  Often there are issues with N.D.A.'s and device drivers, so drivers are not written.

    Antennas

Really only needed if you are extending rage.  Most equipment for in home, or in building networks should be fine with the antennas they come with.

If you intened to add an antenna you need to be sure the equipment you buy has the ability to add an antenna.

Ebay has been where I have bought equipment antenna's and connectors.

Polarity can be is an issue with antennas

    Other Equipment

There are several other pices of equipment that can be useful.

Wireless Bridge, this would give you the ability to add another wired network to a wireless network.

Passive repeater, allow you to extend your range, or

    Plug it together

Need to pay attention to where you place it to get best coverage.

Some device can use POE, can be useful for remote connections

If using Antenna try and have the cable as short as possible

    Configure Access point

    Basic config

depends on your access point and what you want it to do

need to know how you want it to fit into your network

    Security

Old WEP 64/128  - has been broken.

      Should use WAP2
